TV SHOWS

TV Shows are such an important part of social relationships nowadays, I would opine that it is because they are loaded with real information, real life experiences that almost everyone can relate with. They portray society with different lenses, giving the viewer a different experience about reality and his or her own life.
I think watching TV shows, is a great way to see what people think about reality, it helps to understand different perpectives, and broadens our view about a specific matter.

I think TV shows also provide people with an escape from their reality; for instance, TV sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory allow people to get caught up with the lives of the characters and allows them to just laugh and be entertained, allowing them to forget about the problems in their own lives for a short while.

Many TV shows are unrealistic in their content, but many people look to them to provide another lens in which to view their own life. Using Melody's example, I doubt very many people are going to be roommates with a socially awkward super genius, but perhaps they know someone that leans one way and could use a different mental appearance in order to become bearable. Of course, most people just want to be entertained. If you were a neutral outside observer to your own life, you might realize that a lot of it is really funny, but without that outlook and a laugh trac, few people see their lives in that light.

I completely agree with you both, there is a spark in what we know as points of view, and it just depends with what is yours to consider something as funny or sad. Although there are extents to the degree in which this is socially accepted.

The success of any reality show depends on how much controversy it has to keep the consumer interested in the show, and how effectively the consumers can identify with the characters.
