I think it is really basic to determine whether or not people know each other very well in a conversation. You can tell when people know each other because there are no awkward pauses and the conversation flows a lot better. Maybe there might be a hug, too, so there is a physical aspect that lets people know that the two people in the conversation know each other. Also, I feel when you know someone really well there is a lot of smiling and there are not boundaries of personal space. When people don’t really know each other in a conversation the exact opposite occurs. There are awkward silences, physically there are personal spaces between people, and there is not as much eye contact.

The way how you know that when two people are talking to one another if they know each other or if they are starngers is how they would talk to the other person. When knowing a person that you know and talking to them you have a mroe relaxed tine of voice and the body language is relaxed also. When talking to a person that you just met and started talking to you are more into what they are saying because you want to get to know the other person more and the body language is very proper also.

Body language and proxemics.
Usually when two people that know each other talk, they stand closer and seem to be much more relaxed, if such is the case, it is very easy to tell whether two people are close or not. As opposed to what the case is when two strangers have a conversation, there is, usually some distance in between, as if getting closer meant apporaching unknown territory, and also in terms of body language, people are not as relaxed, and can even be stiff, depending on whether or not the situation is uncomfortable.

I can know if two people know each other if they are talking looking into the eyes, if they are relaxed, if they laugh a lot, and if their body language is very expressive. Uaualy when two just met thay tend to keep a certain distance while talking and are more reserved with their body  language because they do not know what does the other person expects from them. People is way more respectful when they are just strangers. On the other hand, people who know each other joke around, have inside jokes, and are more touchy.
