Physical Appearance:
I believe physical appearance shows up more as a discussion topic among my boy friends than with girls, I think the main reason is because I am a guy, but I also believe that it is because guys sometimes have stronger needs to feel accepted and complimented of their physical appearance. Yes, it is true that most girls, most of the time, are taking care of their bodies, and their makeup, and their smell, but I think this is because society has made this aspect to be like this, rather than because every single woman has the need to feel pretty and be recognized by that. Also, I would say that boys have probably the same level of need to feel recognized as handsome, and to take care of their physical appearance, but many of us do not take that much care of it because of fear that we may have to people's opinions.
Overall, regardless of what is it that motivates girls or guys to take care of the physical appearance, I believe that most of youth have evolved into a state of acknowledging that physical appearance does not tell you everything about people, sometimes it does not even tell you the smallest thing about them, it is just a matter of really trying to get to know the people what defines if their physical appearance has or not to do with their personality.

I like that you point out how even guys feel the pressure of having a good physical appearance because often we hear more about the pressure that girls feel to be beautiful or skinny or whatever, but we don't really hear or even talk very much about the pressure that guys feel. I definitely agree that physical appearance doesn't tell you everything about people, but I actually think that it tells us a lot because I think that someone's style is in a way an expression of the person's personality. For instance, someone who is extroverted and lively is much more likely to wear brighter colors more often than someone who is introverted and shy.
I like your post because in mine I say that this topic is a greater issue among girls. It's good to see how guys also worry about their appearance.
Also, I think that physical appearance does not rule relationships as it used to in the past.
