I say goodbye to my family no more than 2 times a year for the 3 years I've been here; which means I don't get to see them a lot throughout the year. Even when I haven't left my country yet, there is always this sort of ritual that my family performs before I leave which mainly includes several casual dinners, conversations, visits to the dentist and even to the tailor. After I'm gone it's a whole different story. I've inherited some of my mom's clothes and jewelry over time, so whenever I get the chance to wear them it's pretty much like I'm carrying her with me. Especially charms with Virgins, since she is so strongly devoted to Virgin Mary. I have an ornament that my best friend from back home gave me before coming here that I always keep in my room. Also, I have a pretty fancy pen that one of my uncles gave me before starting college which I always keep inside a case that my aunt gave me to keep my passports and documents. And the list goes on and on, letters from my high school and college friends, and even handmade bracelets that my last partner gave to me, they all share that special essence of the relationship I have or had with someone.
