When the book was talking about Roman marriages and how the wife became the man’s property it made me think of how in modern times women are considered equal and not property. However, there are still some things that we do in life that we might not think shows women as property but there meaning started when women were considered as property. For example, when people get married the last words the preacher says is “I now pronounce you man and wife” it’s almost never husband and wife or man and woman. Of course people don’t think of its meaning under the lines of property, but originally that’s what it meant.
