"To engage in romantic/sexual activity with another at a party/gathering."
- Urban Dictionary
Many popular songs now-a-days are about "hooking up." Some examples are "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood, "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, and "Feeling This" by blink-182. Nearly every singer, male or female, has sang a song about "hooking up" at least once. But, some songs are crafted in a way where you do not realize that is what it is about at first. An example, "Little Red Corvette" by Prince. That song is defiantly not about a car. Some people say that most music now is about "hooking up." That is not true. Songs from the days past are also about that. AC/DC's "Shook Me All Night Long," "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol and "I Want Candy" by Strangeloves are all popular songs from the past about "hooking up." Men can sing about hooking up with girls and it is generally accepted by the public, while women singing about hooking up labels them as "sluts," "whores," or "tramps." Some songs sung by females about hooking up describe their feelings as needy or dependency. Like they just got out of a relationship and do not want to be alone at the time. Many songs sung by males describe their feelings of hooking up as needing to be satisfied, wanting control or showing power.

I agree, but I also believe that they label that they work for plays a large role in it too. I'm sure that all the boy bands back in the day didn't really care about "thanking the audience in a different way"... (Back Street Boys - Larger Than Life)
