I think in Western culture personality is a big component to a relationship because we have the free choice of choosing our relationships and have a society that does not discriminate against any type of personality or preference. With that, people pay attention more to people they might be compatible with and take more time to find someone that they like. Also, through technology like dating websites and movies, we see what and how relationship personalities work or don’t. We also learn how to search for relationship personalities through social communication and watching surrounding relationships. So Western culture emphasizes personality in a relationship because it’s not just what we look for, it is enforced in society and media.
