Typically, it seems like people's accounts of their interaction with other people, especially when conflict is involved, involve portraying themselves in a better light compared to the other party; for instance, if A was talking about his conflict and interaction with B, A would describe and make himself sound better than B. This is definitely an act of conforming to social expectations in which people who describe themselves would want to be sure that they sound acceptable to the person that they are talking to. People typically tend to seek approval for their behavior from others, so in the case of describing their interactions and conflicts with other people, they would want to be sure that they say what is necessary to ensure that the person listening would not think negatively of them in any way. This means that there is usually a lack in honesty about one's self, which also ties in with the fear of vulnerability about being honest.
