In general, people limit their stories to those that conform to societal expectations. However, in this age of social networking, it is not as uncommon as it once was to hear stories about cheating, one night stands, or even abusive relationships, from either person in the relationship. It could be said that the people that do this are attempting to find themselves in a way that does not conform to society’s expectations. It especially seems that people make themselves out to be what some people might call “a jackass/bitch,” whereas in the speaker’s eyes, he/she is really establishing a feel of independence. In my experience, few people of my generation have told very many stories that draw in a sense of generosity. Drama is all the hype in today’s age.

I agree with drama becoming a self expressive way to gain attention. It makes some people feel accepted because they are being talked about. Whether that attention is positive or negative, they usually don't care.
