I really never got the chance to personally know my grandparents, but I do get to see them every once in awhile. My birth place is in Buffalo, New York which is where all my family lives. We moved here because of my Dad's job and we weren't making millions of dollars so going back home was not an option. When we did go back to New York it would only be for a few days, it was tough for me because since we moved when I so young it's like meeting new people whenever I go up there!
My mom's side of the family is amazing! Her mom and dad are the cutest couple in the world, almost like they came straight out of a Nichols Sparks novel! Yes, they have aged quite a bit since I have seen them last, but their love for each other is incredible. My grandpa is a WWII hero and instead of using his money to fix his back, he used it to put my grandma in a nursing home so they could stay together longer. Life without her is not an option. I have always imagined them dying together because that's how they always have been. He makes way to see her every day, even if it means driving himself. (Did I mention he is practically blind?) The biggest lesson that I have learned from them is that "Love makes a way".
Since I never really had grandparents around me when I was growing up, I always looked to the older people in my church. When I got to high school I took a mandatory history class with Mrs. Ashbaugh, we have such an amazing friendship now! I call her Mama and she is like the grandparent that I can tell anything to. I call her at least once a week to check up on her and she how she is doing, but most of all I fill her in on all the drama that happens in my life. Over the past five years of really knowing her I have seen her health start to slowly tear her apart. I get more and more worried everyday. When I talk to her on the phone I make sure she knows that I miss her so much and that I love her because anything could happen.
Age is something that just happens, it happens to me everyday, but overall I have learned one big lesson... I age too. I look at my elders and see them slowing down, and they always say I'm so lucky to be young, but I know that I'm aging too. I came here to be brave, learn, and grow... why?
You Only Live Once :)
