Some of the types of stories that people share with me about their daily interactions with others and their relationships with others are usually based on complaints about past relationships and/or the good and bad things about current relationships. Most of the times I listen to such stories, the speaker fails to acknowledge his or her own mistakes, or even when they do recognize their flaws, they still find a way to make it them seem as if they were less bad than they actually are. Pride and a high concern with what others think about them are factors that always seem to change the perspective of a story or at least they seem to change the way the story sounds. Also, there are times with stories that are basically a list of all the reasons why the relationship did not work, that may make the speaker look as a very naive person who keeps on being mistreated by others.

That's true; regardless of what happens, people always fail to properly acknowledge their own flaws/mistakes, or if they do acknowledge them, it is excessively.
