People tell stories of things that matter to them. Sometimes the things that matter most are the things that are the most traumatic. Occasionally people tell a story that has to do with something bad that happened to them, which makes them come out to be the hero and the other person to be at fault. This may not be the way to be, but it's the way that it is. Storytellers stretch the truth to make themselves or the hero in the story seem amazing and to never be at fault, when usually everyone is a bit at fault.
