Love is like a plant, you have to water it, trim it. Love is like roses because they also have thorns. Love is a journey. Love is madness. Love is a burning fire. Love is you and me.

There are many songs in which we can find more metaphors about love

Your love is a song (Switchfoot)
Love is a battlefield (Pat Benatar)
Love is blindness (Jack White)
Your love is like a river (Third Day)

I think we can even find definitions of love in the Bible-

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

New International Version (NIV)
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
