first of all MTV is weak any way but i have seen that show before. It lets people see that your parents sometimes know whats best for you even when its obvious that you really dont. But we being a western country naturaly have more freedom than others, and that makes our actions alot more wild and uncontrlled. I feel that people act out more  just to be noticed, in todays sicioty if one just conforms to the norms you will be over looked or just seen as boring.
